Catholic Doctor of the Year Award

Mission Doctors Association is now accepting nominations for the 2013 Catholic Doctor of the Year.   The award recipient will be chosen from nominations received from around the country and honored following the annual Archdiocese of Los Angeles White Mass on October 27, 2013.  This is an opportunity for patients, colleagues, friends and family members to recognize an outstanding Catholic doctor.

Catholic doctors face many challenges today as they work to meet the needs of their patients in the context of their own faith and calling.  Many go well beyond the roll and responsibilities of their profession, offering care that truly reflects the love of God.  For some this is obvious in their own practice, for others this takes the form of volunteering in their community or mission work that may be domestic or international. Their exemplary actions bear witness to the highest values of the Catholic doctor.

The 2012 recipient of the Catholic Doctor of the Year award Dr. Enriquez is a Family Practice physician who was nominated not only for the faith filled care he provides to his local community but the generous service he offers to the poor of Mexico and Honduras.  Since completing his education Dr. Enriquez has cared for the poor living in the boarder areas, offering his time free of charge, often times making house calls.  In 2005, he opened a free clinic near Juarez, Mexico, serving the poorest neighborhoods in the city. In the face of the violence in the region, he now offers patient care remotely through a local nurse. Dr. Enriquez was also recently instrumental in leading the first Diocesan medical mission trip to Choluteca, Honduras, seeing over 700 patients in just 3 days. Dr. Enriquez is an active member of SPJ, Siguiendo los Pasos de Jesus, a Catholic organization dedicated to providing shelter, food, and clothing for the indigent of Juarez. Catholic press and national Catholic News services, among others, covered this award and honoree.  Click here for more details or to read about other award recipients.

The award is given in recognition of the efforts of a doctor who has responded to Christ’s call to “Heal the Sick”, as a member of our Catholic faith community and in doing so has made a World of Difference.  To submit the name of a qualified doctor(s) for consideration please download and complete this form or call the Mission Doctors Association office for a nomination form.  All forms are due by June 15th, by mail or fax.
