Catholic Doctor of the Year Award

In October of 2012, Mission Doctors Association will once again honor an outstanding Catholic doctor following the annual Archdiocese of Los Angeles White Mass.

Catholic doctors face many challenges today as they work to meet the needs of their patients in the context of their own faith and calling.  Many go well beyond the roll and responsibilities of their profession, offering care that truly reflects the love of God.  For some this is obvious in their own practice, for others this takes the form of volunteering in their community or mission work that may be domestic or international. Their exemplary actions bear witness to the highest values of the Catholic doctor.

The 2011 recipient of the Catholic Doctor of the Year award was Dr. Peter J. Daly of St. Paul, MN, current president of the St. Paul and Minneapolis Catholic Medical Association Guild.  He was recognized with this award for his commitment to his own community which has taken the form of providing volunteer orthopedic surgery for St. Mary’s Free Health Center in Minneapolis / St. Paul, his work at St. Lucia West Indies, Haiti, and the founding of the Holy Family Surgery Center in Honduras. (www.holyfamilysurgerycenter.org). Former Chief of Staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital, St. Paul, as well as former president of the Ramsey County Medical Society, Dr. Daly has organized numerous medical missions to Honduras, most recently organizing brigades with urologists, ENT and general surgeons.  Catholic press and national Catholic News services, among others, covered this award and honoree.

We will recognize a Catholic doctor for bearing witness to these higher values again.  Thank you for your help in celebrating and recognizing an Outstanding Catholic Doctor for 2012.
